My daughter will be 18 and reach adulthood in September 2011. I have no contact with her or her mother at all. I have been paying CSA every month without fail since my daughter was 2 years old.
How much longer will I have to pay and will the CSA inform me once the payments have stopped or do I have to tell them when my daughter hits 18? I can guarantee the mother will not tell CSA, and I don't want to carry on paying if I don't need to, and have to face the nightmare of trying to claim the money back.

Best thought and expectation is that it will be up to you to tell them, that way if you do you know for sure. If I were you I would be in contact now, because like you say over paying and getting the money returned would be facing a nightmare and to be frank may be even an impossibliity (I know someone owed thousands and they are not willing to return it!!). With you paying consistently you should have no fears over contacting the CSA, and it should be just a case of sorting out the last payments, but like I say get on with it now just to be sure everything goes through in good time.

It all depends what your daughter's circumstances are, if she remains in certain types of education then you may have to continue paying up until her 19th birthday. The CSA will only assess or reassess based on you contacting them, so if I was you I would call them now and say you're not sure if your daughter is in education or if she has left school...if she leaves school at any point after 16 then the case should close.

yep totally agree with above- u must notify them- if she stays in full time education then it will be payable until shes 19- but the date it actually stops can depend on which term she finishes education and when child benefit stops- best bet is to phone and request this info is checked on a regular basis if you dont think your ex will disclose it
