My son who is 18 has left school and while waiting to go into army has a part time job. Obviously i believe i dont have to pay maintenance anymore and contacted the CSA to inform them. I was then told that because my ex wifes payments were based on child benefit, and she is still claiming that my payments would have to continue! The school then phoned and said my son had been removed from the school register. I called the Child benifits line and informed them of this and was told that until my ex wife calls and informs them of the change they will still pay her......and obviously i would then still have to pay the CSA!!! madness, sheer utter madness. I complained and was told they could open up an investigation and look into it but that it may take 6 months!! all the time i would still be liable to pay the CSA.
    HELP !?!?!?

Have you tried The National Benefit Fraud Hotline? They can be contacted on 0800 854440. Your ex will have to repay any child benefits she has received since your son officially left school (if she hasn't told the Benefits Agency she is committing fraud). Or failing that, the CSA Central Appeals unit? (Ask your local CSA office for the "Appealing against a decision" booklet.) They should look at your case within 10 weeks. and you should in theory be entitled to a refund of CSA money paid since your son left school. Like all Government departments any investigation will take time but there is no quick-fix solution unfortunately.
