   I previously had 2 nights shared care for my son until April this year when my wife reduced it to one. I had been messed about with access prior to this so initiated a court action to have my access formalised. The court decision was made in October and confirmed the 1 night shared care due to where I ended up living being geographically not practical for putting my son into school mid week. I advised the CSA of the courts decision, and they have backdated my "arrears" to April when my wife reduced my access. The now want £550 over 2 months, or have offered to spread it over 5 months at a lower rate which is "take it or leave it." I've also been told on the phone that there is no point in appealing and that if I don't pay I will be prosecuted. Please help.

   How are the CSA taking money from you? Write back quite simply saying that the Court Order was only made in October therefore they can only make a change to the assessment from that date. And anyway you can't afford it. Why didn't you increase your weekend contact? By the way, don't phone them, put everything in writing! No point in appealing, what they saying is they don't want you to appeal. If this was me, I would say to them, that until the matter is sorted and they agree to leave it as it was, then you're not making any further payments. Also check with your ex as to whether she has actually been receiving the money, and make a private arrangement with her. Tell the CSA to get xxxxxx. They only want the money to pay themselves bonuses.
