Hello this is my first post so please bare with me, Before I met my ex I was due to start Uni, I met my ex and she got pregant very quickly and the whole things lasted no more than a few months. My daughter is 2 now and I have seen her only a handful of times and communication between me and ex is difficult. I have paid CSA since she was born but this year I have decided to go to Uni, I phoned CSA today to notify them and they say I have to keep paying my amount for the next 20 weeks, I cant see how I can pay £190 a month a figure that is derived from an income when there was one now there is no imcome apart from college money and Id happily gve her 15% of that but I cant see how they can get me to pay money thats just now there.

    any advice?

I do not see why they should ask that you continue to pay the set amount when you are not earning? I would keep pestering them for justification for such things, particularly why it should be payment for a further 20 weeks, it is not uncommon for them to "bully" people into payments in order for them to keep their targets up. Get them to provide the guidelines or policies for such circumstances, as if your income were to go up as of tomorrow the change would take effect immediately, so why should it be any different when going down?

They can't - they should have started a change of circumstances as soon as you called them, and will contact your employer, who can confirm that you have left them. You may have to provide proof that you are going to Uni, an enrolment letter or something like that. If they tell you that you have to pay for 20 weeks then call back and hopefully you'll get through to someone who knows their job, as the person who advised you that obviously didn't.

    Agreed.

When I lost my job several years ago, I phoned the CSA and they reassessed my payments to zero once my previously employer had confirmed this.

You should not be paying anything. Even your Uni money should not be classed as earnings. However, expect hostilities to rise with your ex once the money stops. It is amazing how reliant they become on your money. Also, don't forget that she will still be getting about £84 per month in child benefit from the government.

You must ask for a reassessment, give written proof of when you started at Uni and any other proof that they may need, dont delay make a quick call asking them to note down your query and them in writing (recorded delivery), bare in mind that they take forever to respond sometimes 20 weeks or more.
