Hi all,
If I quit my job, and my current wife starts working instead, can the CSA take her earnings into consideration? or will I basically have to pay nothing?
I'm under the new rules.
Desperate situations call for desperate measures...
cheers.

Why would you not want to stand up to your responsibilities and provide for your child?
I don't think you should be so quick to judge, without knowing the circumstances.
Incidentally I have been paying as much as I can for several years under a private agreement, and also incurring vast amounts of cost to keep in touch with my kids after my ex moved halfway accross the country.
I've now been contacted by the CSA and have to pay far more than I can afford. After paying bills and CSA I am left with less to live on than the CSA take, and I have a wife and four kids to feed, cloth, and support. I can also no longer afford the travel costs to see the children that live with my ex.
It's not that I don't want to make a contribution, it's that the amount the CSA are taking makes it impossible to survive, or keep in contact with the children it is supposed to be benefitting.
Granted it would be an extreme option, but the only other one at the moment is suicide.
Thanks for your help.
Ignore poraw, very narrow minded one line answer.
I believe they can claw money from your new partner however not 100% sure.
Good Luck
Matt
The original poster clearly stated they would quit their job if it meant they didnt need to pay. That is avoiding their responsbibilites.
However, in answer to your question, if your on new rules then no, your current spouse's income will not be taken into consideration. New rules will take a % of your earnings depending on how many children you need to pay for, how many children living with you and how many nights a year you have your children. The CSA will not take into consideration your spouses income and if you can afford to quit your job and her support you and your current family, then I dont see any feasible reason you cant keep you job and pay the maximum amount of 25% of your salary (less if you have other children living with you and your kids stay overnight with you)
Poraw, you see no feasable reason because you don't understand the situation, and/or possibly didn't read the original post correctly (Note the word INSTEAD).
they can get you on your tax credits ! If you get it that is
Bu99er - we would be replying on tax credits to make up the difference.
Can they touch child tax credits or just working tax credits?
they prob wont hit your working tax if it in your wifes name but you tax credits will be in joint names so the will want some of that !
Just found this in a leaflet published by the CSA:
The amount of income (usually pay or salary) left after taking off
things like income tax, National Insurance and payments into a
pension scheme. Bonuses and commission also count as pay or
salary. We don’t normally count dividends paid to a director of a
limited company, unless the parent with care asks us to do so.
We count Working Tax Credit as income if the non-resident
parent’s earnings are higher than their partner’s earnings.
If the non-resident parent and their partner’s earnings are the
same, we include half of the Working Tax Credit in the child
maintenance calculation. We don’t count Working Tax Credit as
income if the non-resident parent earns less than their partner.
no way out is there
they will do an attachment of income on all income, and as benefits are going down, you would be a very silly fellow to give up your job. Either way you will pay. If you are not careful, and the government think that you are trying to avoid, I've heard a new legislation is trying to be passed that will insist on having your income assessed every month. If you do end up on benefits imagine how that would be.
well thats were you are WRONG they cant do that to tax credits or working tax
They aren't doing it now, but it is an issue and they are trying to bring this in because of people giving up work to claim some form of benefit.
but ask child tax credits that money is paid to the kids who live with you and NO one else so the csa are robbing money from kids dirty theft that what it is
this is wot happening to me . my new partner recieves child tav credits for her disabled daughter, haveing more due to her condition. £112 a week. the csa have said she is only entitled £47 of that . how does that make sense. just punishing her the csa for being disabled. gonna punish an innocent child that got to be some sort of abuse !!
