Fighting the CSA
Whenever a non resident parents receives any form of communication from the Child Support Agency, often their first response is one of outrage. The CSA’s demands are often so high that few people can see how they can afford to pay the government agency such a large sum of their income, especially when it’s usually at a time of financial struggle such as a separation or divorce.
So how do you go about fighting the CSA? What can you do to battle the Child Support Agency and reduce your maintenance payments?
Firstly, you should immediately apply for a variations form. This will allow you to claim for expenses such as money you pay for the upkeep of the children, money you pay in order to see them and any money you pay when you have access to them. It does of course mean that you’re financially better off seeing your children, rather than not – and subsequently your ex will be worse off financially for you seeing them. The CSA knows this, and will tell your ex that if you have no access to your children, they’ll receive more money.
Be wary of that fact!
Other things you can do to help with fighting the CSA include recording all of your phone calls, and noting down names and times of who you spoke to, and when. You should keep a meticulous diary of your dealings with the CSA so they cannot claim to have lost documents, claim that they haven’t spoken to you and claim that they have not been told of changes to your circumstance.
Expect them to lie and to lose information, because they will. You need to be prepared for it.

Got something to say?

CSA was an agency to help single parents with children whether it was the father or mother who had custody. I was a single mother with 3 children…. leaving my ex because of physical and mental abuse. I worked full time from 1994 until 2007 when I became classed as disabled. In all those years I worked I hardly got maintainence and still live in rented accommodation and on my own…..Where CSA has allowed my ex buying bigger properties and even starting a business in 2002 and a new family….where is justice here!
and to top it up he excepted no responsibility since 1997 when csa was involved
