CSA have increased my payments

July 16, 2009

just been reassesed and my payments have increased by £60 per week. I only earn £319 and now im paying £85 per week for one child.

How can i live on the rest which is left over. This leaves me with £30 a week for petrol, food household repairs car repairs i just cant live. No wonder dads committ suicide cause of all the stress this brings. I now cant afford to buy my son birthday or christmas presents, or take him anywhere.

This is just not fair, i know i have to pay for my son bur the amount which has been set is sending me into financial ruin.

    I speak only with knowledge of the New Rules, i.e after March 2003.
    Leaflet CSL 303, page 9 states the NRP shall pay the following percentages of TAKE HOME pay;
    15% for one child.
    20% for 2 children.
    25% for 3 or more children.
    The CSA can only apply The Rules. They will not be interested in any, however real, sob stories. If you think their calcs are wrong, challenge them. Do it in writing, never by ‘phone, so you have a good record.
    So, under these rules, £85/week equates to £566.67/week take home pay???
    Normally, the assessment would only change if your take home pay changed. Ask them why the change.

    You may find, as I did, the internal CSA Appeals process to be a waste of effort. In my case, they only reviewed the figures that the General Office Staff provided and consequently came to the same incorrect mathematical conclusion. They did not conduct a thorough investigation into my complaint, by reviewing Principle Information, which would have revealed the flaws in the assment calculation.

    Hi robert,

    Did your case commence on or before 03/03/03?

    Would assume you like me are on the old system before 2003. I have similar. Earning just under £500 per week but hit with a massive £189 a week in CSA. Doesn’t leave a lot to pay the mortgage, bills and travel to work

    In fact the CSA even refuse to consider my Travel To Work Allowance – I travel 120 miles a day and should get an allowance over 150 miles per week. But no not in my case

    Cases are regularly moving from the Old System to the New System (15% for 1st child) but the CSA have confirmed in writing to me that a computer error in 2003 meant cases didn’t move. So I stay on the old system until they can be “bothered” to transfer me. The more fuss I make I am sure they push me down the list

    my ex earns around £450 after tax and only has to pay £42 for one child he never sees on the old system – its pathetic – but enough of my problems, its sounds like they have it wrong.
