CSA has no interest in my financial difficulties

October 22, 2012

Just wanted some advise following a recent re-assessment.

I had a very high paying job until Feb 2012 and have recently come off benefits following a new job being taken on a considerably lower salary (£15K less). Anyway my new assessment is only a £150 less than what I was paying – so my question is can I contest this as I know my ex-wife is working and receives certain benefits – are these ever taken into account or is their decision solely based on my income.

Which I have to admit will put in some financial difficulties – to which the CSA have absolutely no interest..

your maintenance calculation is based purely on your income – wages, tax credits and any pension you may be receiving. You will get an allowance for any children living in your house and also a shared care allowance if you have your child/children overnight for 52 nights or more in a year. The calculation is 15% for 1 child, 20% for 2 children and 25% for 3 or more children. If you are being asked to pay more than your maintenance assessment this will be due to arrears from unpaid maintenance wither prior to when you were on benefit or since you went back to work

your maintenance calculation letter will tell you what income figure the calculation is based on

Your child support debt is to be considered as your priority debt

    JDMoola,

Is your case on old (before 03/03/03) or new (on or after 03/03/03) rules?
